Sports Report by Roger Robinson
For this summer a new swimming facility has been completed by the U.S. Forestry Service at Detroit Lake. To get there, drive to the City of Detroit, cross the bridge just before entering the city, take the first left and proceed approximately one half mile, park is on your left. Handicapped parking is provided. The ramp to the river is 100% accessible which also includes a platform to transfer to a seat that submerges giving you the ability to swim in the river. The beach area has been improved and is all sand filled and very nice to use. Lonnie Morgan our previous Sport’s Director helped design the facility. If you are looking for something to do this spring or summer consider taking your family out for a picnic and enjoy this new facility.
On another note, registration packets for the annual Wheelchair Games are available in the office. Be sure if you're planning on going, have your completed packet to our office no later than March 1st. See our form in this Paralog. This is a first serve event for funding with novices having priority.

Let us help you improve your quality of life! Be sure and use your $200.00 recreation fund before October 1st. Just send receipts to the office, as well as a short story of your use for refund.

On the shores of Lake Michigan, the Milwaukee area will be a wonderful setting for the Games since recreation and sports are so prominent in the local lifestyle. The staff of the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center and the Wisconsin Chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America will welcome you with style and make you feel right at home during your visit. State Parks
I just learned that Oregon now invites all disabled veterans, regardless of % of disability, to use state parks for 10 days a month, five days at any one park at a time. They have a new card folks can write for and it can be downloaded at: New Card
Still, without it, all they require is the OR disabled vet license plate, OR disabled vet hunt/fishing license, or the VA card stating "service connected" or things like Washington's disabled vet parks card...that's righ...other states vets are invited.
Regards.
