Letter from the President

This is the time of year that always motivates me to get out of the office more – not just because the weather is getting better but the audit is done and the holiday hustle and bustle are behind us. If you have called the office lately you may have noticed that you don’t hear the friendly voice of Kristen Chiles. Ms. Chiles started a new job with the Building Codes and we will miss her around the office. Since we have lost an office staff member, there has been some shifting of human resources. Since Ms. Chiles’ left, Audrey Parent has picked up a lot of workload beyond just working in Membership. Audrey is working with me on a new Paralog design that will be easier to add or reduce the number of pages published. Mr. Parker will be editing each issue to make sure it reads appropriately. Also, Renee Robinson has rejoined our volunteer staff, she will be helping us in the front office two to three days a week.
As we continue to make changes in the office, I am working on our communication to our members and vice versa. First off, we would like to put more information in the Paralog from the members. Each of you may know of accessible activities or opportunities in our local area that might benefit our membership. If you know of something special or unique in your area please let us share it with everyone; send pictures. The Paralog is a great way for us to impact each other through stories, jokes and opportunities to improve our lives.
A second area that I believe is important is that leaders should lead by example. As this issue goes to print, your board will be discussing the importance of funding Spinal Cord Research. Unfortunately, our current budget does not reflect the importance because of only designating $1,000 to research. I am proud to say that this new board is very committed to not expend any more then budgeted. So, to ensure we continue to be financially responsible, and to increase our funding for research, each member of the board is going to donate $50.00 to the chapter for research and as president I will be donating $100.00. I believe each of us has already benefited much more then $50.00 through our initial rehabilitation. So, with that in mind, would you as a member join with me and your board in donating a designated amount to the chapter for spinal cord research. Imagine that, if everyone in the membership only donates $10.00, collectively we would donate over $4,000.00. The great part of it is, the donation is on behalf of the membership and not a business. Please join us in this venture; this is one way that together we can make a difference in someone’s quality of life.
Sincerely,
Anthony Marx,
President
